Maryland Voters Reject Policies of Democratic Leaders in Congress; St. Mary’s County Now Has More Registered Republicans than Democrat The Minority Whip of the United States House of Representatives, Steny Hoyer (D-MD-5), now lives in a county that has more registered Republicans than Democrats.
When the voter registration drive started in January 2012, registered Republicans trailed registered Democrats 24,220 to 24,042. Less than two months later, registered Republicans now lead registered Democrats 24,448 to 24,340. Voter registration closed on Tuesday to be eligible for the April 3rd Primary Election.
John Wafer, Secretary of the Maryland Republican Party and regional representative to Southern Maryland, said, "Registered Democrats leaving their Party and independently registered voters who are now joining the GOP is a sign of the tides turning in Maryland."
Wafer continued, "David Willenborg and his team in St. Mary's County have done a tremendous job in voter outreach. For over twenty-five years Steny Hoyer has consistently abandoned the values that the voters in his district elected him to represent."
David Willenborg, Chairman of the St. Mary's County Republican Central Committee said, "Steny Hoyer is officially out of touch with St. Mary's County. His support of Obamacare and his subordinate attitude to San Francisco's Nancy Pelosi puts him at odds with the values of Southern Maryland."
